My HSKS3 Pal Rocks!

And I’m a bad receiver because I’ve been way too busy to document this and post it. I’ve been meaning to, but I just haven’t had time! Anyways, here are the goodies my pal sent me.

HSKS3 Bag
HSKS3 Bag Inside
HSKS3 Dishcloth
Book, Needle, Stitch Markers
Sock Yarn
Romney Fiber

If you notice, the sockyarn says that it’s handdyed, and I think it was handspun as well! How awesome is that!? And then, she also sends me fiber! She’s officially got to be the best pal, and I suck for not posting this earlier.

Since I finished spinning and plying that last yarn, I started something else as well. Take a look.

Alpaca/Merino/Tussah Silk

This stuff is shiney and nice to work with. I’m really enjoying it. This is coming out really thin, which is exactly what I wanted because I was thinking of using this for something I’m designing. More details on that later, but I definitely see a difference in my spinning from the last batch I worked on. I think I’m getting even better!

I did some public spinning over the weekend while camping out, and I had a lot of people comment on how they’ve never actually seen anyone spinning before. One guy kept commenting on how I need a wheel, and he would do this in front of my boyfriend, so I’m hoping that’s a possibility come this Christmas.

I did it!

I plied my yarn the other night and this is what I got.

My First Yarn

I used my green Corriedale and the varigated pink Merino and plied the two together to get this. I think it looks good, but I think it may be a bit overspun. Any advice, suggestions, comments? If you guys think it is a bit overspun, how would I take the spin out of it?

Personally I love the two colors. I’m calling this Poppies, because my mom had given me poppy seeds the same day I plied this and when I looked at it, it reminded me of the poppies she gave me and how they will look when they grow from the ground.

Fiber sent from above

Sheep from Above

If this isn’t a sign of good things to come I don’t know what is! So we were at a petting zoo and I saw this sheep. My boyfriend and I were joking about how I only see the thing as fiber and yarn and then tells me to get next to it so he could snap a picture of me with it and this is how it came out. Yes, that’s me with my Clapotis and Tubey. I know, not exactly matching, but I was cold. Anyways, later on that night I scored BIG. Check out what I got!

Firstly, let’s start with the new spindle.

Hi-lo Schacht Spindle

It’s a Schacht Hi-Lo spindle. I got the large 3″ (2.2 oz) spindle because I want to spin thiner singles as I knit a lot of lace and socks. As you can tell, I started using it already and it’s working like a dream! I’m loving how the top whorl works, so that’s how I’m using it. As you can tell, that’s new fiber.

Varigated Pink 8 oz

It’s a superfine merino in varigated pinks. I was thinking of using this to ply with the green, but I’m not sure yet. I do know that I want to ply it with this…

Solid Pink Fiber 4 oz

…which is the other fiber I snagged. It’s a darker shade of pink, and I think the contrast of dark and light pinks would look great. Then there’s this…

Varigated Blend

…which is a blend of a bunch of stuff, mainly merino and tussah silk. I love the colorway. It reminded me of the beach with the blues and browns in it.

I got all this stuff and I didn’t go over my budget of what I wanted to spend and I’m ecstatic! I have a lot of fiber to spin up, considering that I got 8 oz of the varigated pink to ply up with the green and the other pink.

I had also set the twist on my first single and rolled it into a center-pull ball so that when I go to ply, it’ll hopefully go smoothly.

My First Single

I can’t wait to finish up spinning the pink stuff so I can ply and see if my concoction of colors will actually work. I think it will and I’m already trying to plan what I’m going to use it for. I’m thinking a skully since winters coming…

When did I get so FAST?!

I am just about done finished spinning those 4 oz of Corriedale. Last night after dinner, I sat down next to my boyfriend and we started watching T.V. while I was spinning away. By the time I was ready for bed, I looked down and I only had one strip of the stuff left! How did that happen?! When did I get so fast?! You should see what my spindle looks like! I wanted to take a picture of it last night, but it became a bit of a mission to get the camera ready to take a picture with it, so that didn’t happen. I can’t wait to get my hands on more fiber so that I could get a nice combination of colors going and start plying some stuff!

On that note of fiber I’d like to mention something I saw on Lime & Violets daily chum today. Over at purlewe she will be selling pink batts of fiber and will donate the profit to the Susan Komen foundation. I think this is a great thing to do for a great cause! She’s only going to sell a limited amount so head on over to her blog and e-mail her to buy some and contribute to the Susan Komen foundation.
