30 minutes to go before I could leave work! Dying to go home and spin!!!
(0)Monthly Archive for February, 2008
I think I should start this new post with this:
“Hello. My name is Lissette, and I’m addicted to fiber.”
Yup, that’s right. I’m addicted. I have been spinning for 3 days straight! First it was the Phoenix yarn that I showed you in the previous post. And then, last week I was on Etsy (I should know better by now) and I found some AWESOME fiber from CJ Kopec. Or maybe I heard about her from Lime & Violet, I’m not entirely sure. Somehow though I stumbled upon CJ Kopec’s site and found this…
Isn’t this just beautiful? The picture just doesn’t capture the colors right. I can’t even explain to you the color explosion that there is in this fiber. Seaside Margaritas isn’t just a couple shades of greens, it’s a spectrum of greens down to yellow! It’s GORGEOUS! And Broken Hearts? Oh.my.God. If my heart was bleeding because it was broken that’s exactly what it would look like. The different shades of Magentas and pinks, and then there’s an underlying pale yellow that is really hard to see. I haven’t even mentioned how soft and squishy this is! It’s incredible! Soon, soon, this will be spun up and used in some project. I’m not sure yet what, but it will be used.
Then there’s the stuff I got from the Loopy Ewe. Shopping with Sheri is always awesome! And now that she’s carrying fiber, it’s even better! I picked up this…
Both of these are from Sakina Needles via Sheri at The Loopy Ewe. These colorways that Sheri has are just amazing! The pictures she shows really doesn’t do it any justice.
So what do I currently have on my bobbins? I have a bobbin full of Seaweed and a bobbin full of Phoenix. That’s what I’ve been doing for 3 days after work. I’m almost done with them both, and as soon as I am I’m going to ply them and show them off! I can’t imagine that these will disappoint in any way.
I’ve also signed up for the Spunky Eclectic fiber club. You can’t go wrong with this one. It’s $15 a month for a single order (4oz) of fiber. I pay that much for World of Warcraft, why not for some fiber that can be spun into something nice that I could wear to keep me warm and cozy? The best part? You pay for this on a month to month basis via Paypal AND you can cancel you’re subscription at any time. You don’t have to get this every month if you don’t want to. You’re not obligated in any way, except for maybe that voice inside your head that will scream at you for not getting it because it’s such nice fiber, and it allows you to experiment with different types of fibers. For a beginner like me that’s an awesome way to get something you either wouldn’t normally get or would be too afraid to try.
Ok, that’s my story. Who’s the next addict?
So I went to a SnB last night with the Sweet Stitching Betties, and I had a BLAST. I got to knit my Solstice Slip sock, that I’m about an inch from finishing, and I finally got to meet someone who spins! I sat and watched her so I could finally see how it works without doing the online videos and stuff, and I feel so much more confident because of it. She gave me a batt of fiber, so she’s instantly become my new best friend, besides the fact that she’s a super cool chick (I hope that’s not offensive to you Brianna), and because of her look at what I’ve done…

I’m hooked. I’m spinning some nice yarn now, something that I feel confident about and can feel super proud of, and it’s all because of Brianna!
Notice the new color of the Kiwi in the picture. I spent all day Sunday staining it and it’s still not completely done. I need to fine sand it a bit and then add another coat of stain, and then I think it’ll be finished. I’m so glad I found this hobby.

Notice Cocoa’s curiosity. She wanted to know what’s in the box. She’s curious about the box. So I open it and spread it’s contents all over the floor to organize.

As I’m putting this together with load of love, Cocoa is sitting next to me staring at me wondering, “What’s this going to be?” Finally I finish it. It’s all put together. It’s beautiful! I’m a happy girl!

I have a wheel. My first, and I will love it forever, even if I don’t have it forever because it was my first and my stepping stone to something big.
I’ve been promising to deliver pictures of finished objects for a while, and up until now I haven’t. Well here it is! Actually, there’s only two things that I’ve recently finished, but two is better then nothing!
Anyways, here’s the Absorba mat that I finished quite a while ago but have totally neglected documenting. As you could tell, the bathroom it’s sitting in is rubber ducky themes so the Peaches n’ Cream Double worsted yarn I chose had yellow’s blue’s white’s and light green’s to go with rubber ducky colors and the colors of the bathroom. It came out really sturdy and super nice! I personally love this mat. It’s really soft and it lives up to it’s name! It’s on of the most efficient things I’ve knit.
The other one that I finally finished was the Grasshopper socks. I finished these Friday night as I only had 5 rows left of the cuff to go, so they were finished. These are super comfy, super soft, and fit my calves beautifully! The only problem I have with them is the same problem everyone else seems to have with them. They don’t stay up all the time, so I’m thinking of undoing the cuffs and reknitting them with elastic so that they stay up better. Other then that these socks are great!
Since I finished these socks I also cast on the Solstice Slip socks. I’m loving how easy the pattern is so far, and how they feel. They’re typical Socks that Rock in that they’re super soft, super pretty, the colorways are awesome, and they’re just all around awesome! It’s a pretty easy knit and it’s going by pretty fast.
I’ve also picked up the Frost Flowers and Leaves shawl again. I had messed up a couple of months ago and it frustrated me so I placed the shawl on time out. I was feeling pretty good yesterday so it was picked back up again. The pattern calls for 6 repeats of chart 2. I decided to add a 7th repeat, which is what I’m working on now, to make it a little bigger. It’s going by pretty good so far, with minimal, if any, mistakes in the lace. Actually, when I fixed the mistake I had made a couple of months ago, everything went fairly smoothly. This is definitely one I’m looking forward to finishing.
There may be a late night post tonight as I’m anxiously awaiting UPS to stop by and bring me a little present I’ve been waiting for, so there may be a TON of pictures up later on tonight. If not tonight then tomorrow. I can’t wait!
