Crafty Weekend

I’m sure you noticed the Etsy banner on the top of this page. I’ve decided to revive my Etsy shop! I enjoy crafting just way too much, and sometimes just the joy of making things (even if it’s not something I’m going to use) is enough. Of course, that just leads to an overwhelming collection of crafted items laying around, so the etsy shop is back!

First, I finished the Impressionist Colorway spinning project, and honestly I love it! It’s 3-ply and about a sock weight yarn. It’s so soft, bouncy, and shiny! There’s 425 yards in this skein, so it could easily become a pair of socks!

Another one that I finished is Boot Cut Barbie.  This one is 2-ply and also about sock weight with 346 yards to the skein.  I love this one because the way the plying brought out a contrast of colors is just amazing to me!  The barber poles are contrasts between the black and pink, khaki and lighter pink, khaki and black.  It’s just too cool!  This would knit up to a really interesting object, and it’s so smooshy!

A while back I decided to throw some fiber in my crock pot and play with how the dyes would take under certain conditions.  What I came up with are these two rovings.

017007

The blue one is called Falling Tears and the red is Bleeding Heart.  The blue one has areas of darker blue and even purples, and the red, as you could see, is missing areas contrasted by darker reds, and both are superwash.

Honestly, I hate to see this any of this go, but I honestly don’t know what to do with it all, and I need the money.  Grad school starts in a month and I could use the extra income.  I also decided to play around with my sewing machine this weekend and some fabric that I had laying around and created these cute little bags.

They’re the perfect size for a sock project!  I kept one for myself.  I also want to experiment with different bags to see what I could create and what I could come up with.  That will come later.

There’s another single sitting on a bobbin that is just waiting to be plyed and I may just do that tonight or tomorrow, depending on how crazy my night turns out to be.

I’m amazed at everything I did because I did all this plying, spinning, sewing, and still managed to clean the house, do 3 loads of laundry, and cook a meal worthy of a king!  I was a busy girl this weekend and am happy at how everything turned out.  Let me know what you think!

Why I hate living so far South

90buttonfiberSometimes I really wish I didn’t live in the deep South (or Dirty South, depending who you ask) because of cool events like the Homespun Yarn Party that’s coming up in Maryland.  Of course, I could make the 15+ hour drive up to Maryland for one day of fibery goodness, but that would be a bit insane.  It’s bad enough that I’ve already decided I can’t attend Stitches South because it’s the weekend before my commencement ceremony, and if I miss my ceremony after how hard I’ve worked to get by B.A. and all the knitting/spinning time I’ve had to take out of my day to study, I think I’d just die.

Either way, check out the details for the Yarn Party!  It’s a good chance to meet other spinner, dyers, and get fairly good tips and advice from them all.

I’ve earned my title!

I feel I have officiamlly earned the “Crafty Girl” title. It’s been raining all day today so the dyeing I had intended to do never got done. Not to mention all the dye I was waiting for never came. After tracking the package, it now says I should receive it by Tuesday. So instead of dying stuff I decided to sew a needle roll. I sewed the end all of needle rolls.

I don’t think the pictures explain the enormity of this thing. It’s about 20″ long by about 22″ wide. It has enough space to hold 14 pairs of straight needles 14 pairs (or whatever, I have about 4-5 in each slot) of DPN’s and 7 circulars. Maybe I should say that it can hold this many sizes because you can actually fit more into each spot. This thing is huge. It’s so huge. I can’t explain how huge it is. It took me all morning to make because I wanted to be sure it would come out perfect, and I think I got it pretty darn close to perfect. Now I need to finish the sweater.

While I was at Joann’s yesterday buying fabric, I found the cutest things!

These are mint boxes, and they can be used fr so many things afterwards. I just thought I should share this with you all. I found them at the $1.99 bins next to the register. Well, off to knit my sweater.

Just call me Suzy Homemaker

I’ve been a little busy-body at home lately. With my decision to start the Flylady thing, I’ve also gotten into cooking again, and have been enjoying it as well. Here’s the “fruits of my labors”:

Blueberry Muffins

How cool is that! I made Blueberry Muffins! I think this is awesome because I can take them with me to work and have one for breakfast with my usual morning coffee, and all is good.

Inside Out Socks Cocoa with Inside Out SockI’ve also been a knitting fiend as well. I finally finished one of my Inside Out socks from the Rockin Sock Club and have already cast on and am working on the second one. The leg still came out a little tighter then I would have liked, but that seems to be my curse when knitting cables. Every time I knit cables it always comes out tighter then I’d like, but Cocoa approves.

Mystery Stole 3I’ve also been trying to finish the Mystery stole, but that one is a bit harder to work on since it’s really hard to knit lace3 everywhere. You need to really sit and concentrate on that one, so it’s taking me a little longer then I would have liked, but I know once it’s done I’m going to love it! I just need to knit and not lose my concentration. I seem to be one of those knitters that easily distracted by newer projects, as I’m *dying* to cast on Absorba from the Mason Dixon book, but I’m not allowing myself to cast that on yet until I finsh BOTH the stole and the shawl.

Flower PowerFlower PowerAs promised, here’s the pictures of the latest Rockin Sock Club yarn. I hope this isn’t a spoiler for anyone, but I have to show this off because it’s absolutely fabulous!!! I’m going to knit the socks in order, so it’ll be a while before I get to knit these, especially since I’m knitting the Knee High to a Grasshopper socks, well, knee high. There’s the option to do them knee high or not, and I’m taking the option. I’ve been wanting a pair of knee highs for a while, and these have the calf line down the back like hose, so I thought that would be fabulous!

Ok, I must get knitting now, so I’ll post more later.

Scrapbooking

I’ve gotten quite a bit done. I decided to go with a chronological album that starts from the friendship I had with my boyfriend (before our relationship), until now. I’m archiving all the trips we’ve taken, all the holidays we’ve spent together, all the fun times we’ve had and things of that sort. I’m having a lot of fun with this, and my boyfriend loves the way it’s coming out. My little man has too. He keeps commenting on how cute it all is. Check out the album I created in the gallery with the pictures of how it’s all coming out. For now, here’s a sneak peek.
